I am new here; what is TNDR?
TNDR stands for ”Teknisk-Naturvetenskapliga doktorandrådet” translated to English “PhD student council of the faculty of Science and Technology” and is a PhD student organisation that represents all PhD students at the faculty of Science and Technology (TekNat) at Uppsala University. We aim to monitor and address any issues regarding the rights and concerns of the PhD students of the faculty. We also organize many social events throughout the semester.

1. Council Meeting & Elections, 14 January, 11:00, 10238, Beurlingrummet, Ångström
The council meeting provides a great opportunity to discuss matters related to PhD studies, upcoming social events, and other relevant topics (see agenda). Please feel free to add comments to the agenda if you have any points to include. This meeting will include elections for the following TNDR board positions:
- Vice Chair
- Webmaster
- Member
In addition, several representative positions are also open for election. Sign up for positions here. Most positions are compensated, and to improve transparency we have recently compiled role descriptions for TNDR Board positions.
We’re also working to make sure every department at the TekNat faculty has a voice in our meetings. Do you know who represents your department? If not, maybe it’s time to get one! We’re encouraging departments to set up their own PhD councils or boards, and we’re happy to help get things started, just reach out if you’d like some support or advice.
All PhD students are warmly welcome to join the meeting and free lunch is provided if you sign up by January 13 2026, 17.00. Zoom link is also available! Your input and engagement are highly valued, and we hope you will be able to join the meeting!
2. Social Events: Pub Crawl (January), SkiTrips (February)
After our very successful Christmas party with over 80 participants, the Nordic cycling event, and board game evening, we are keeping the momentum preparing for the much-appreciated ski trip and pub crawl. Another nordic cycle is also there:
❄️The Nordic Cycle Vol2: Sauna & Ice Bathing (17 January): Once again! We’re planning to repeat the Nordic Cycle at Fjällnor, saunas booked, all signs pointing to a properly freezing Nordic experience, hopefully no algaes this time, on Saturday, January 17th, meeting point:10:20 at Uppsala C bus 809 direction Knutby, don’t forget to sign up!
🍻Pub Crawl (January): We are planning a pub crawl in January to kick off the new year with fellow PhD students.
⛷️Ski Trip (February) : We are in the early stages of organizing a ski trip, tentatively scheduled for February.
Further details and sign-up information for both events will be shared once the plans are finalized.
3. Grants Available for More Social Events
In order to encourage people to build PhD students communities/hobby groups, TNDR provides grants for social activities targeting TeKNat PhD students, don’t miss out the opportunity, see the link for the details.
4. Phd Gasque
We’ve already started thinking about the next PhD Gasque, planned for April–May! It’s one of the highlights of the year, and we’d love to make it even better with more people involved. If you are already hyped to volunteer in planning and organization, get in touch by filling in this form! As a volunteer, you will be able to attend the event free of charge 😉
5. UTN Naturvetarbalen
UTN is organizing Naturvetarbalen 2026 at Uppsala Castle on 28 February, featuring dinner, entertainment, award ceremonies, and dancing. The event is open to everyone, with tickets allocated through a lottery (registration for the lottery has now closed). Additional tickets may be available during the Ball Pub on 19 January 2026 at Uthgård. The dress code is white tie or ball gown. PhD students in the faculty are welcome to join this elegant Uppsala student tradition. See their instagram post for details!
