1. Council Meeting, 25 November, 11:30, 10238, Beurlingrummet, Ångström

The council meeting provides a great opportunity to discuss matters related to PhD studies, upcoming social events, and other relevant topics (see agenda). Please feel free to add comments to the agenda if you have any points to include. All PhD students are warmly welcome to join and free lunch is provided if you sign up by November 24, 17.00. Zoom link is also available! Your input and participation are greatly appreciated, and we hope you will be able to attend!

2. Social Events: Christmas Crafting (24 November), Sauna & Ice Bathing (6 December)

After our awesome ice-breaker party, we planned two more events before the new year:

🎄Christmas Crafting (24 November): Come build and decorate your own gingerbread house, make Christmas ornaments and postcards, or simply enjoy some friendly board games with fellow PhD students. It will be on 24 November, 17:30, at BMC C2:319, don’t forget to sign up!

❄️The Nordic Cycle: Sauna & Ice Bathing (6 December): After Canoeing and ICE-BREAKER we follow up with the real ICE BATHING experience.

The saunas are booked and the weather is getting colder and colder. With this, we’re inviting you to an unforgettable nordic experience in Fjällnora naturreservat on Saturday, December 6th, meeting point: Uppsala C (Uppsala) Läge C2 at 10:15, there will be 30 min hike, don’t forget the sign up!

3. Grants Available for More Social Events

In order to encourage people to build PhD students communities/hobby groups, TNDR provides grants for social activities targeting TeKNat PhD students, don’t miss out the opportunity, see the link for the details.

4. Missing mailing lists

We have been reported that many, especially the new, Phd students are missing in mailing lists such as dn-doktorander-alla@lists.uu.se, teknat-doktorander@lists.uu.se, and department mails. We seem to have fixed the issue now. Nevertheless, in case you know someone who is missing some important mails from these lists, please reach out to us, and we can help!

5. Improving participations and representation

Lately, it’s been tricky to find people interested in joining the TNDR board or taking on representative roles. A past survey showed the main reasons were low compensation, limited awareness of what the roles involve, and the fact that some positions require Swedish skills. We’re already working to fix these issues, but we still need more people! There are still several positions open for elections, so if you’ve ever thought about getting involved or just want to know what it’s like, reach out and join us at the council meeting!

We’re also working to make sure every department at the TekNat faculty has a voice in our meetings. Do you know who represents your department? If not, maybe it’s time to get one! We’re encouraging departments to set up their own PhD councils or boards, and we’re happy to help get things started, just reach out if you’d like some support or advice.

6. Overalls, patches

Did you know that TNDR has overall as to follow the student tradition at Uppsala University? Reach out if you are interested in getting them! The prices are 463 SEK for PhD overalls and 35 SEK for patches. We wear them to our social events and collect patches as memories for these fun activities.

7. Phd Gasque

We’ve already started thinking about the next PhD Gasque, planned for April–May! It’s one of the highlights of the year, and we’d love to make it even better with more people involved. If you are already hyped to volunteer in planning and organization, get in touch! As a volunteer, you will be able to attend the event free of charge 😉

Warm wishes,

TNDR team
