PhD salary

There are two kind of employment as PhD student in Uppsala University full employment and scholarships. Uppsala University has rule of equivalent salary for every PhD student.  Most of the scholarship students get some part of the salary from some external scholarship agencies and rest of the salary should be compensated by the dapartment according to the university guideline. The salary ladder is decided by the negoatiation between the employee association and Uppsala Unversity every year and it can be found in saco-s council's webpage in the following link.

The taxation method can be found in the following link and remember it is always tough to calculate the tax. We have calculated carefully but it may varry by some amount. You can contact to your department administration in this matter and you can also contact TNDR board members as well.

Steps:

  1.       Open the first of the two links. Fill in:
  2.       Inkomstår/year (2016)
  3.       Kommun/municipality (Uppsala)
  4.       Församling/community (Uppsala Domkyrkoförsamling) – this depends on place of residence.
  5.       If you is a member of “Svenska kyrkan” (Swedish church), mark the box before “Medlem i Svenska kyrkan”. Otherwise leave it unchecked.
  6.        Press on “Hämta skattetabell”
  7.       Open the pdf (this is the same as the second link above)
  8.       The pdf shows the tax for every salary interval, for example 25,000 à interval 24801 – 25000. The first column shows the tax on salaries.
  9.       Subtract the tax from the salary.
  10.       The compensation should be the difference between this amount and the scholarship.

  A bit complex but taxes are not always easy to calculate.
